4 MURALS FOR
PHILIPPE STARCK

ABOUT
Murals inside the elevator towers of M Social Hotel in Singapore.

WORK
Illustration / Design / Installation

CLIENT
Philippe Starck

The work is based on the idea of XIX museums as capsules of time, and how the elevator travels through the space moving through this collection of objects, pieces, signs, structures, as anthropological magical museum, like a cabinet of curiosities. The drawings are numbered and classified as objects in a vitrine. In the past museums where spaces of questions, where spectators must find their own answers and interpretation to the images and objects exhibited, many of them seem to belong to a uncertain past and uncertain use.

The movement of the elevator creates a cinematic travel through this collection of objects and stopping by certain sets depending on the desired floor.
This work studies the position of the role of the observer and how by nature we need to understand the world and all that surround us, by direct explanations or in case of lack of this information the use of interpretations to create maps of intellection.

On both cases, the elevator and columns works the elements are presented as partial fragments, which need several views, visits to the space to catch a bigger view as pieces of a puzzle, creating a intimate relation with the client who stays in the museum.
